Iris - Acrylic on board

Iris Acrylic 10" x 8"
$30.00
I put this piece on my new Etsy store a few days ago. Take a look and see what you think. It's still kind of a work in progress, but I like the ease of setting up a "shop". Everything there is all hand made and they keep a pretty close eye out to make sure that is the case. None of this made by the thousands imported stuff like some other places we all know about.
Took my Mom's teeth to the dentist the other day....well her partial. It needed a little repair. I had to wait. I hate to wait. When I wait I look thru magazines at recipes. I normally am a pretty polite person and leave the magazines intact. However, at some point I have to weigh how long I've been there against how good the recipe is....you've all done this...no need to act so innocent.
Yay! New pomegranite recipes for next year!

Linda Hiller at Etsy

2.5" x 3.5"
Apple and Grapes SOLD
The above painting was done on Colorfix Sanded pastel paper. However, this is oil. It's the first time I've tried oil on sanded pastel paper and I really like it. It seems to give it a nice texture and for these little cards almost appears to be canvas. It pulls the paint off your brush nicely and is heavy enough not to need any backing. It's acid free, too. My only concern will be how fast it will eat my brushes up.
I'm branching out. Decided to try a few things on Etsy. So far I'm pleased with how easy it has been to set up a store there and list some of my art to sell. And, it appears to get a pretty good amount of traffic. It still need some work, but I'm on my way. If you lovely people out there would like to take a look, my store addy is www.lindahiller.etsy.com Go take a look and give me some ideas about what else I need to do.
Well, I'm off to breakfast.

Cat Claybord Scratch Art

5" x 7" Claybord etching
Frame included
Okay, now here's where I need your help. My DH has decided this would be a good experiment to see the response of a low start, no reserve on eBay. He's talked me in to putting this up for $0.99 yes, that's right 99 cents. Ninety-nine litttle pennies. Help me out here, please. I'm thinking about opening a store on eBay, and this is supposed to be some kind of test. They say stress can cause memory problems. I'm getting stressed over this and for the life of me I can't remember what this experiment was supposed to prove. Help me puuuleeeze.

Oil Painting

"Fall River"
8" x 10"
I think I will start doing a little more oil painting. This painting was done using a pallet knife on panel. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it - besides I love the smell. I guess I'm just an oil paint junkie.
Our Studio Group meets tomorrow and I'll be slathering more oil around. Perhaps I'll get enough of an inventory to open an eBay store. Been thinking about it. Each time I think about it, they seem to raise their prices on something. Now that makes me feel real comforted. However, I should only look at a store as an additional form of advertising so all in all it would be pretty inexpensive.
I think in order to become a successful artist a person needs to spend about 80% of the time promoting and 20% of the time painting. Of course networking is the name of the game in today's world. Promoting seems to be the hardest part for a lot of artist. Somehow it seems to me that a lot of artist's personalities do not always have that outgoing business personality. What do you think? Should I get a manager? I could always draft my husband, but he'd want to always do it his way. Decisions, decisions.

Paint, paint, paint....

First thing this morning I decided I had better get it in gear and get some painting done. Show time will be here before I know it, and I'll have nothing to show for it but a few left overs. ACEOs that is. These things are way too addictive. I must be firm. I must be strong. I must get to work on other things. However, this is what I finished yesterday and put up on eBay last night.

3.5" x 2.5" SOLD

Pastel painting of two cats

A Bird?
30" x 24"
pastel on suede board
$720.00
This will be one of my paintings that I'll be taking with me to some of the art shows I'll be going to this season. Most people that see this that have cats can really identify with this painting. There always seem to be some mysterious communication between cats have that attract most of us. This painting is beautifully framed and museum glass has been used to eliminate most of the glare.
I do have several sized of prints for sell that have been very popular.

ACEO

ACEO 2.5" x 3.5" SOLD
I'm really proud of this little girl. She lasted only 12 minutes before getting her first bid.
My husband is starting to pace the floor wondering when I'm going to start building up my inventory for my shows starting this spring. He thinks this fun stuff is taking away time from my more important (in his opinion) art which is large pastels and oils. He might be right. Maybe I'll work for a couple of hours on some of my larger works and then do a couple of these. Perhaps that will appease the art gods.
